Question:
I received a message that says that my request is complete, but only some of what I asked for is attached/enclosed/available. How can I be sure that my request was thoroughly researched?
Answer:
The City has a comprehensive procedure for processing requests involving multiple city departments. This process requires each department to affirmatively indicate that the department has researched its records. The City Manager's Office then compiles the information provided and releases the information to the requestor. If a department indicates that it does not have any responsive information, the City Manager will simply respond with the information provided by the other departments. The City Manager will not necessarily identify the type of information that a department did not have. (For example, if a requestor asks for code violations and fire reports, and no fire reports are located, the City Manager will just release the other responsive information without stating, "No fire reports were located." There is usually no need to confirm that there are no fire reports.)
